IFC's Role in Driving Sustainable Agribusiness Investment and Impact

IFC is uniquely positioned to lead in agribusiness investment with its private and bled finance solutions, as well as advisory services tlored to the needs of large and small businesses. Our strategic objectives are focused on enhancing food security, driving economic development and inclusiveness, and making sustnability a fundamental driver for business growth.

The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program GAFSP Private Sector Window uses innovative financing techniques and concessional funding to support projects that m to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers living in some of the world's poorest nations. This initiative focuses on every aspect of the food supply chn, from farm inputs to logistics and storage, processing, and financing.

The GAFSP Private Sector Window specializes in early-stage agribusiness projects with high potential for development impact by integrating them into local, national, and global value chns. It not only supports sustnable agriculture practices in developing countries but also serves as a attracting more investment and financing of agricultural sectors in IDA International Development Association countries.

In addition to its investment activities, GAFSP deploys advisory funds to strengthen potential investment clients and increase the complementarity between Public Sector Window and Private Sector Window projects. IFC's Advisory Services play a vital role in building capacity through on-the-ground trning and advice that improve farmer productivity, standardization, risk mitigation, and adaptation to climate change.

GAFSP has leveraged $6.5 of private sector funding for every $1 of its investment since inception, deploying $475 million across 89 projects in 29 countries. Additionally, the advisory fund supports capacity-building activities with a total deployment of $53 million through 101 projects in 35 countries.

The GAFSP Private Sector Window is supported by key development partners: Australia, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

COVID Conversations series offers in-depth insights into the impact of the pandemic on various sectors. For instance, it explores how Cargill Cocoa Chocolate navigated challenges during the pandemic, Bhutan's largest private sector employer adapting to COVID-19 disruptions, global tea companies' strategies for resilience, and the effects of the pandemic on meat processing industries in Ethiopia.

The Inclusive Agritech Facility IAF is a pioneering effort by IFC that de-risk early-stage equity investments in agriculture technology companies in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Its primary goal is to develop solutions for smallholder farmers through private sector-led agri-tech innovations with potential for large-scale deployment.

With support from the Bill Melinda Gates Foundation, the facility demonstrates investmentthat balance sector risks, commercial success, and impact goals, attracting additional sources of investment capital. By doing so, it strengthens collaboration between IFC and the foundation, leveraging shared visions for inclusive agricultural transformation while capitalizing on complementary strengths across both organizations.

For information about our collaborations with the Government of Canada through the Canada Facility for Resilient Food Systems FRFS, which focuses on strategic pillars including food security and nutrition, inclusive development, and sustnability as business drivers. The facility support projects aligned with IFC's Global Food Security Platform $6 billion financing initiative that strengthen private sector response capabilities amidst surging levels of food insecurity.
