Introduction:
In an environment where over 500 million individuals reside in environments marked by fragility, conflict or violence, and the figure of those living in extreme poverty in these settings is projected to rise to almost 350 million by 2030, constituting two-thirds of worldwide extreme poverty, traditional itarian finance struggles with insufficient funding for meeting people's needs. Existing resources t to be fragmented, short-term, and slow to react during the onset of conflict.
The Defining and Driving Innovative Finance project, jointly funded by USD and executed by IRC’s rbel Impact Lab, ms at three mn objectives: mapping the fragmented innovative finance landscape; designing pilot-ready financing innovations for people affected by violent conflict; and contributing to the evolving community of practice within this area.
As pioneering work focusing on financial solutions for individuals impacted by violent conflict, our project builds upon recent advancements in natural disaster funding. Through this initiative, we will introduce three key areas:
1 Insurance for Lives and Livelihoods: Identify opportunities to use established financial instruments such as insurance to mitigate losses that could otherwise be catastrophic due to conflict, thus diminishing the reliance on d.
2 Investment Opportunities with Impact: Develop a pipeline of investment options that not only improve people's lives but also generate returns for investors, thereby expanding the total amount and quality of avlable finance.
3 Enhancing Traditional itarian Grants: Design new methods to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and catalytic impact of traditional grants, amplifying every dollar invested in itarian d.
