FINANCE'S ROLE IN DEFORESTATION: EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF BANKS AND INVESTORS IN TROPICAL FORESTS
Forests Finance is a groundbreaking initiative that evaluates the financial contributions provided by more than 300 companies involved directly in the production and distribution of commodities that are known to drive tropical deforestation. These companies operate within sectors like beef, soybeans, palm oil, pulp and paper products, rubber, and timber, with impacts felt across Southeast Asia, Central Africa, West Africa, and parts of South America.
We have also recently expanded our analysis to include data on mining operations that might affect natural tropical forests as well. This comprehensive project provides a beta dataset assessing finance flows into 22 mining companies operating in the same regions.
